Beim Geruch dominiert der malzig-würzige Charakter in harmonischem Einklang mit einer typischen, leicht fruchtigen Weissbiernote, bevor sich im Antrunk ein zartbitterer, vollmundig-würziger Geschmack verschiedenster Malzaromen entfaltet. Diese bestimmen angenehm das weitere Geschmackserlebnis und verbinden sich mit Frucht- und Nelken-Aromen zu einem vollmundigen und süffigen Weissbiergenuss, wie er für Maisel’s Weisse typisch und einzigartig ist. Maisel has been brewing wheat beer since 1887 when the brewery was founded by brothers Hans and Eberhardt Maisel. Today, the company has become one of Germany’s top producers of wheat beer.
Similar to a Hefeweizen, these southern Germany wheat beers are brewed as darker versions (Dunkel means "dark") with deliciously complex malts and a low balancing bitterness. Most are brown and murky (from the yeast). The usual clove and fruity (banana) characters will be present, some may even taste like banana bread..
For best results, pour about two thirds of the bottle into your glass, then swirl the remainder around the bottom of the bottle to rouse the yeast. Then pour into your glass. I recommend an authentic Bavarian wheat beer glass, thin and tall and wide-mouthed at the top. It is well suited to holding not only the beer but also the large head it forms.
